I have been joined by Dave from the band 'All Now' who has answered some questions about the band so you can find out more about them!
Welcome to Totally Music, would you like to introduce yourself?
My name is Dave and I sing in All Now
How did you come up with the band name ‘All Now’?
It’s from a Taking Back Sunday song called ‘This Is All Now’. Originally we used the whole title as the name but shortened it. I like it. Its short and sharp but essentially meaningless!
How would your band mates describe you?
Hyperactive, extrovert, passionate, curvy
What go your into music?
Originally it was my Dad playing ‘Hunky Dory’ by Bowie in his car. Not knowing what it was but being fascinated by the weirdness of it. When I started being in bands I wanted to be Liam Gallagher until I found Green Day and Nirvana and everything changed.
What have been your favourite experience in the band so far?
Selling out our first couple of shows was cool. The first one in particular right after people could start going to shows again was intense and emotional. We never wanted it to end.
What have been your favourite venue to perform at and why?
When it was open I used to love playing at the Roadhouse in Manchester. It was sweaty, dingy and smelt like shit but I loved it. I played there lots in my old bands and rarely had a bad show. Great venue. Such a shame it’s gone.
When performing and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?
Weird but incredible. And I have this habit of trying to keep it going for as long as possible to savour the moment and I imagine that could get annoying! If it’s a particularly meaningful lyric it’s a really powerful thing. We have this one song about my nan where the people will sing the chorus with us and it gets me every time.
What is your favourite song you have released and why?
We’ve only released two! But it would be Northern Blood. I’m proud of the lyrics and they were really cathartic to write. There’s loads of references to where we live and where I grew up too which makes it extra special.
Out of all the songs you have written, what are your favourite set of lyrics and why?
We have a song called Troubles that I wrote about an old friend of mine. He’s one of the most intelligent, interesting people I’ve ever met but he has this really destructive personality as a result of everything he’s seen and been through. I like that one the most I think.
What’s your motto or some good advice that you live by?
I don’t really have one so I’m going with Paul Rudd’s character’s motto in ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ - “When life hands you lemons, just say ‘F**k the lemons’ and bail”. I think that’s incredibly wise.
What’s next for you?
Rehearse more, release more, record more, play more!
