An Interview with Draconian Reign

I have been joined by 'Draconian Reign' who have answered some questions so you can find out a bit more about their band!

Welcome to Totally Music would you like to introduce yourself?

We are Draconian Reign. A Dark Symphonic Deathcore band from Nottingham, UK.

How did you come up with the name “Draconian Regin”?

I heard the word “draconian” on the news once and thought it sounded theatrical. Then the word “reign” is also very powerful. The name sounded fairly metal so we stuck with it!

How did you all meet?

Me, James and Cal have been friends since we were teenagers. James moved to Nottingham in 2010 and we have always been in projects together since. We starting writing songs to pass time during lockdown with the intention to be an internet band however things started moving so we head hunted Kelsey and Andy from their other band 'The Five Hundred'.

What is your favourite song you’ve written and why?

We all have different favourites but mine is 'Before The Gates'. The theatrics of the song and video is the direction we are focused on and I think it best portrays what we're about as a band.

What are your favourite set of lyrics from one of your songs?

The Funeral is probably the most meaningful set of lyrics. It was written during a rough period in time and we have had several messages from people relating to it, so it feels good to know that we can resonate with fans and help them through any shit they may have going on at that time.

If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

A dream of ours has always been to tour the USA. It is one of the harder achievements to unlock but hopefully we make it over sooner rather than later!

If you could collaborate with anyone who would it be and why?

Jason Suecof. He is our GOAT producer. All the bands that influence us have been produced by him at some point. It would be a dream to track an album with him one day.

What do you find most challenging about having a career in music?

Honestly, as a relativity new band, money can be the toughest road block. We have to balance our 'normal' lives and day jobs whilst investing and fuelling the band. We are quite lucky to have enthusiastic fans who buy our merch regularly and this has really helped us start up so we can get our music where it needs to be!

What is your proudest accomplishment as a band and why?

Performance wise, Bloodstock 2022 is the highlight for us so far. It was our third show and people turned up to pack the tent out on the hottest day of the year.

Release wise, we are all extremely proud of the new EP, 'Tragedy Eternal'. A lot of hours went into making these 4 songs special and we couldn't be happier with the result and the reception it has received.

Where would you like to see yourself in the next 5 years

That's a tricky question. Not much over a year ago we hadn't released a track and we've done so much since! With the team we have assembled around us were confident we can take Draconian Reign to the next level. If things keep going how they have been, in 5 years we would love to be headlining high profile venues around the world and taking the next wave of bands out with us for the ride.

What’s next for you?

We have a bunch of day fests lined up for 2023. We have kept this summer selective as we have just started writing our first full length album which occcupies a lot of our time. We have joined Kerosene Management and are hoping to announce some bigger tours in the not so distant future. Keep your eyes out in 2024!
