An Interview with Kaylee Lauren

I have been joined by Kaylee Lauren, who has joined me to chat about her musical journey!

Welcome to Totally Music would you like to introduce yourself?

Kaylee Lauren, the Los Angeles-born singer/songwriter, with over 2 million streams, is a rising star who has established herself with incredible success as an 18 year old artist. The singer writes for the purpose of bringing her fans a space to connect with her music and her artistry, while displaying soul touching emotions with an honest portrayal of what she experiences as a teenager.

What got you into music?

Growing up, I was in musicals, singing around the house, overall just a really creative child. For as long as I can remember I've had a love for singing, and I am lucky to have my family who always supported me.

My grandparents always played 60’s music for my little brother and I, on our car rides home and I just remember falling in love with the way music made me feel. I felt so connected, from a young age, to lyrics, melodies, sounds… MUSIC!!!

I started songwriting in 2020 when I felt like the world was falling apart, I felt like parts of me were too. I needed an outlet to express myself and I began writing in my journal and then quickly picking up the formatting of songwriting. Ever since then, I’ve never looked back and I have fallen in love with the idea of expressing my vulnerable feelings and creating music through my creative light.

I am so thankful to call this my job, truly so thank you to everyone listening.

How would you describe the music you create?

I like to compare my sound to a crossover between Billie Eilish with dark, dramatic, and soulful sounds & lyrics with Taylor Swift’s authentic writing, heartfelt lyrics, and nostalgic sounds. I believe my music falls into the genres of dark pop, indie pop, and euphoric sounds.

What has been your favourite song you’ve written and why?

Gosh, I've written so many songs, honestly a lot of my favourites continue to change as every song I write I improve so much and my writing style has grown, since my debut single “Rollercoaster”. I love my new songs that are merely just demos but they’re so gooooood!!

What can fans expect from one of your gigs?

I love being dramatic especially in the intros to my shows. I love throwing in casual hair flips, stares with the crowd in the audience, and interacting with the audience as much as I possibly can.

I have created a crowd favourite in my song “My Heart’s Not Yours” at the bridge I like to ask the audience for help with singing the catchy “ah ah ah” part of the song, It’s a really fun way to get the crowd involved and I think it brings the whole room together which is always a great time.

If you could perform anywhere in the world would it be any why?

One of my dream venues to play is Radio City Music Hall. Whenever I am in New York, I stand outside and dream of my name on the top of the building, I imagine my fans lining up around the venue, and I see myself playing with my band in my favourite city.

You’ve received over 2 million streams of your music. What was that feeling like to achieve something so special?

Receiving 2 million streams for my music has been an absolute dream come true for me. I dreamt of being a famous pop star when I was a kid and to be so close and reaching my biggest goals has been an amazing experience. I am so grateful for everyone who continues to support my music!!

If you could give any advice to someone wanting to pursue a career in music?

Don't be scared to release music, release your first single.. Just do it. You never know what might happen, things always find a way of working out and I think it’s about trusting the divine timing of everything that will lead you to your dream life.

Not everyone will blow up on their first Tiktok, maybe not even their first 100, but if you keep making daily progress, you will soon be where you dream of. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not good enough for anything, believe in yourself first. Believe you deserve it, and the universe will serve it…

What’s next for you?

I am hopefully releasing an EP/album soon and going on tour. I would love to play more shows in different cities, like New York, Nashville, and Paris. As I release more music I hope to widen my audience and for my music to reach people who would love and support my career. I want to meet my biggest fans, they mean the world to me.
