An Interview with Kitty Crocker

I have been joined by Kitty Crocker who has answered some questions about her musical career so you can find out a bit more about their music!

Welcome to Totally Music would you like to introduce yourself?

I’m Kitty, an indie singer songwriter from Cornwall!

What got you into music?

It’s always been the one thing that i’ll never get bored of. There’s a lot of music I listen to now that’s really nostalgic to me so i’ve just generally always been exposed to music. I don’t think it was until I started writing my own songs when I was younger that I realised this was something I wanted to do.

How would you describe the music you create?

I would describe my music as moody, indie pop, rock. I think!

You’ve recently released your new single “Shotgun” would you like to tell us about it?

This song is really how I see my first EP sounding. I feel like i’ve found my footing compared to my first single. Shotgun is a song about desperately wanting to be strong but inevitably going back to someone who’s bad for you. I like how it can be related to quite a few different situations and i’ve really loved hearing how people relate to it.

How did you come up with the artwork for “Shotgun”?

I wanted something that was recognisable yet simple. I wanted the font to ‘reflect’ the song and I think it really does.

What are your favourite set of lyrics from the song and why?

I think like a lot of other artists, writing the second verse is always tricky when you have a good first verse. In this case though i’m really proud of the second verse and they’re some of my favourite lyrics i’ve written. ‘Thinking about you’s a full time job, and i’m working overtime for free’ is definitely my favourite couple of lines in the song and it felt like a real eureka moment when I thought of them, haha! I like the phrasing of the lines and the way they’re not obvious.

What has been the most memorable gig you’ve played and why?

I’ve played some really great Cornish festivals this year including Tunes in the Park and The Great Estate. I really love when new people find my music and these were two great gigs with great crowds.

What can fans expect from your gigs?

I focus on making my acoustic gigs as varied and interesting as I can. I like playing both acoustic guitar and piano which changes it up in the middle of a set. I play mainly originals with a few covers that fit my sound and from my favourite artists. (Always Stereophonics though !)

What is your dream venue to perform at and why?

I’ve been to a few really lovely intimate gigs this past year including one at Earth Theatre in Hackney, London. I saw Far From Saints play there and I can only really describe it as magical. The setting is really stunning and it felt like there was a lot of history in the building.

What’s next for you?

I’m currently recording my debut EP, coming out early 2024 which i’m incredibly exited about! If you like Shotgun you’ll hopefully like the rest of the tracks even more !! I’m getting as many gigs as I possibly can for next year, follow me on instagram to stay up to date !!
