An Interview with Lauren Hannah

I have been joined by Lauren Hannah who has answered some questions about her musical career so you can find out a bit more about her music!

Welcome to Totally Music would you like to introduce yourself?

Hi I’m Lauren Hannah and I’m a 19 year old singer/songwriter from Scotland!

What got you into music?

I’ve always loved music and been part of a musical family, I started piano lessons when I was 5, cello when I was 8 and taught myself guitar a few years after that.

What has been your favourite song you have created and why?

I think probably my recent song “Cigarette” has been my favourite so far, because I usually record my own music in my bedroom and getting to go to a studio and to hear it go from a few recordings on my phone to an actual song was really cool.

What are your musical influences?

In terms of artists I would definitely say I used to listen to Maisie Peters’ acoustic songs and other artists like Ed Sheeran and Freya Ridings who really inspired me to start writing acoustic chilled out music.

When I write a song I either have inspiration from something that’s going on in my life or I create a fictional storyline in my head and try and write a song about that which I find fun too. Even certain words or phrases can inspire the title for a song.

What is your favourite musical memory and why?

I would definitely say Ed Sheeran reposting one of my videos a couple years ago is the coolest thing that’s happened so far.

How do you differ from most other artists?

I started writing my own music when I was about 12 and I’ve released lots of different genres of songs so I would say I like to experiment with different types of music

Where would you like to see your musical career in 10 years?

I’m not sure, I’d like to have released lots of new music and new albums, played some more gigs and just see what happens!

What is the most difficult thing about being a musician?

I find it really annoying when I want to write a song and it doesn’t go as planned or takes a lot longer than I’d like, so probably just when I lose inspiration for a bit and have writers block.

What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

Definitely having my original music that I’ve created being played on BBC radio stations. It’s crazy to think that people listen to my music and enjoy it like the music I listen to myself.

What’s next for you?

I’m planning on starting work on my second album soon and recording lots of new songs!
