An Interview With Lucy Crisp

I have been joined by Lucy Crisp who has joined me to answer some questions about her music so you can find out more about her!

Welcome to Totally Music would you like to introduce yourself?

Hey I’m Lucy Crisp, a 23 year old Nottingham based pop artist!

What got you into music?

A lot of my music varies between different subgenres of pop, such as dance pop and indie pop which is pretty cool and I love being an all rounder!

You’ve just released your new single “One Summers Day” would you like to tell us about it?

Yeah, so 'One Summer’s Day’ s about a current relationship that I am in which is very happy and healthy. It’s a very personal song about my life behind the scenes but it summarises us together very well. When I wrote this song, I was very nostalgic about the summer that we met and how our relationship evolved from that day back in July, it makes me quite emotional looking back on that even now. I remember when I came up with the chorus first off - he started crying and then I started crying because he loved it. Just goes to show men have emotions haha!

What are your favourite set of lyrics in the song and why?

It’s very hard to choose one but if there was any then I’d have to say “We speak our thoughts aloud to avoid the thunderclouds but the sun don’t shine all year round”. I’d say that whole second verse speaks words because I know that not every relationship is ever going to be perfect and despite the journey you travel on, you learn a lot about them and yourself along the way.

What did you learn during the creation of the song that you feel will help you in the future?

I think it’s to not rush the songwriting process and to always gather feedback, especially on mixes because what you think might sound good may not do to another person.

If you could collaborate with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Dua Lipa is I’d say the dream collaboration, or even Raye! I’d love to collaborate with Sfven on a song as some of my music is similar to his.

I’d also love to collaborate with some producers also, Rob Milton or Ian Kirkpatrick would be very cool as both of them have produced music for some of my musical inspirations!

What has been the best gig you have played and why?

To this date, I’d probably say when I played at Bodega for the Circle Of Light Album Launch. The crowd absolutely loved ‘One Lie’ and an unreleased songs that I played, and there was so much love that was spread around the room during my set!

What can fans expect from one of your gigs?

Expect a mixture of danceability but also bring tissues for the second half of the set.

If you could give any advice to someone following in your footsteps what advice would you give?

Always keep networking, reach out to producers you want to work with and always look at funding opportunities as well! Youth Music are supporting this project I’m currently working on and it’s so cool

What’s next for you?

A lot of surprises of which I may or may have not spoilt already, and a few gig dates later on in the year… keep an eye out on my socials for that!
